The end is near, death of development and ChatGPT
Am I the last developer?
Will I even be needed anymore?
I will move back in with my mother…

Even if you try you can’t avoid the barrage of news on ChatGPT. From our friends at OpenAI, we have a chatbot that is talked about endlessly.
Call me a technology curmudgeon but I am not buying it.
The ChatGPT bubble?
Now that the Crypto craze has diminished we can see it for what it was. Another bubble.
Much like the Tulip mania of many years ago, we love a good craze. Journalists and writers need something to sell advertisements.
All the talk of ChatGPT will most likely bring another speculation. Will you pick the winner?
Deja vu all over again

As a developer with gray hair, I have heard this song and dance before. In my early years of development, there was CASE. Computer-Aided Software Engineering.
This was supposed to be the end of software development. This was in the 1990s. Fear and hysteria continue their clothes just change.
The Good
Optimistic developers like me hope for help from artificial intelligence. Things like GitHub’s Copilot sound nice.
Technology is always changing. One doesn't pursue software development to engage in repetitive tasks indefinitely.
The Bad
Some will resist this change. Let’s be honest many organizations still use mainframes.
Luddite: one who is opposed to especially technological change
I still remember Doug. He was a developer I worked with early in my career. He knew Crystal Reports.
Doug didn’t want to learn anything else. The company offered to train him and he passed. He was let go a few months later.
The Ugly
The overblown headlines and predictions are the real mess here. Of course, we are a society that spends hours on who are football team will draft.
Overall, I think that there will continue to be technical problems to solve. Perhaps our title will change, but we will still be needed.
